Auteurist Critique of Katsuhiro Otomo

Discussing the work of Japanese animator and film maker Katsuhiro Otomo with reference to Akira, Cannon Fodder and Steamboy. What is discussed in this essay is his treatment of genre, culture, visual language and symbolism and the similarities and contrasts these three films share under these aspects. This essay also makes reference to the Japanese animation industry and how Katsuhiro Otomo has made a name for himself in film making when Akira bacame a catalyst in Japanese animation's popularity in the western world and how it has has an impact on animators and illustrators alike worldwide.
